  • Carson City (formerly Ormsby County) grew out of the Comstock Lode era, founded along the route to Virginia City’s mines. As the mining boom reshaped Nevada, Carson City became the territorial capital in 1861, then the state capital in 1864, the same year Nevada became Battle Born.

    In 1969, Carson City became one of the few consolidated city-counties in America, a single, unified government serving the entire community.
