Churchill County was established in 1861 and grew around the Lahontan Valley, known for its ancient lakebed soils, agriculture, and ranching. With the early 20th-century Newlands Irrigation Project, Fallon became a major agricultural center, producing hay, alfalfa, and dairy that serve Nevada and the West.
Later, Churchill County became home to Naval Air Station Fallon, the training home of the U.S. Navy’s elite aviation program, recognized worldwide as “Top Gun.”
It remains a county rooted in agriculture, service, patriotism, and community strength.
